In the words of the artist:
|
" We are living in uncertain times and while much concern has been expressed for the safety of humanity, I feel the same compassion needs to exist for other life forms. In most of the work in this show I am juxtaposing symbols from the human aspects of life with animal forms and plant forms: Seeds fibers, trees, etc.       The basic building block of all life forms is the cell. Its entire programming is survival and protection, growth and propagation. The cell works to promote the ideal environment for itself and from this all life forms grow. Rocks provide the structure of the earth much in the same way the cell walls provide the structure for the elements within living cells. The cell is our common denominator and a powerful symbol of our potential mentally, physically, and spiritually. The protection of the planet lies in our hands: It is both a blessing and a burden.       While I am using a variety of different printmaking and collaging techniques, a similar theme emerges in this body of work. I realized this happened almost subconsciously and became clearer as I continued working on this show. I am pleased to be collaborating with Elizabeth West, an artist whose work I have long admired and who also finds inspiration in the inanimate forms of nature." |
