"I paint because of the way it makes me feel-totally absorbed in the interaction of watercolor and paper-totally disconnected from all the problems of the outside world.  If I create a work that's pleasing to others, it's a bonus!  My favorite subjects are the wild landscapes of Alaska, where I've lived since 1976.  Capturing their magnificent beauty on paper is a challenge that keeps me striving to improve."

"I paint to create an intentional dialogue between certainty and imagination, observing and absorbing that which instinctively metamorphoses into abstract representation.  What has informed my work since relocating to Alaska from more moderate climes is the drama of the seasons, the open space.  Here, I am greatly influenced by nature's patterns, textures, colors, and this influences my work, often times, subconsciously.  Much of my creative process involves working intuitively and spontaneously, as a kind of meditation in the act of painting.  I work within this highly personal context leaving much to chance, while striving to express a universality that may be individually interpreted. My intention is to explore and expand consciousness for both myself and the viewer in response to the relationships and tensions represented in my art. Art need not be readily understood to be appreciated.  It is the mystery, not necessarily the easy answer that contributes to a work's intrinsic value."
